I was teaching first grade in 2001. Many of my students were in school the next day in order to keep some things as normal as possible. The students and I "talked" about what they were thinking, feeling and discussed some of their questions. Following our conversations, students were given paper and told they could draw and write anything they wanted. I have a wonderful drawing and writing from a first grader. The drawing is very detailed and his sentence, in first grade hand-writing, says: "Our flag still stands today."
The Glen Rose Reporter ran this picture on their front page this week. I thought you might also be interested.
